April 11, 1978 - February 16, 2008
Robert was a strong and courageous person who brought joy to everyone he met. He was born in Muskegon on April 11, 1978 to Brian J. and Patty J (Carroll) Dodge. Robert was a student at Muskegon Community College and owned and operated his own business, Robert's Chicken Ranch. He was a member of Lakeshore Lutheran Fellowship Church. He is survived by his parents, Brian and Patty Dodge; brother, Tye and wife Elva of Albany, OR; grandmother, Flossie Carroll of Nunica; his special uncle, Freddy Carroll and special friends, Suann Morey and Sue Taylor.
Robert J. Dodge Fund
We believe our son, Robert, was special; but then, most parents think their children are special. In Robert's case, because he was unable to communicate verbally or to move about freely, his needs were unique and infinite. What helped make him special was not his needs but the people with whom he came in contact and the programs in which he was involved. These experiences enriched his existence and, in turn, those individuals involved in providing him with opportunities were privileged to share his smile, the twinkle in his eye, his caring and understanding, and also his joy in both the little and large things of life.
Even with all his challenges, Robert was able to experience many things the rest of us often take for granted through his exposure to programs and access to supplemental aids which we, his parents, were happy to be able to provide. Countless others with challenges similar to Robert's are not so fortunate. With this in mind, we want to establish the Robert J. Dodge Fund in his memory which will be set up through the Community Foundation for Muskegon.
His life so blessed ours that we want to help others enjoy life as Robert did. We learned much while sharing Robert's life and we hope you will be moved to support our effort. Our goal is to give other children a chance to see the world thru Robert's eyes . . . a world of wonder, a place to explore, a time to laugh, to love and to learn. A world that should be available to all children.
Your gift to the fund is not only tax deductible but it is also an opportunity to provide experiences for expanding the social, educational and recreational lives of individuals with needs like Robert's. Please join us in reaching our goal, for Robert's sake.
